Soon the month of Ramadan will arrive. But problems often come related to determining the beginning of the month that makes several different groups of people in determining the beginning of fasting. Basically there are several ways to determine the beginning of the month in Islam, namely by looking at the new moon or by completing the month to 30 days, but some scholars believe that the determination of the beginning of the month must be done carefully through direct observation of the new moon.
Hilal Method to Establish the Beginning of Ramadan
In terms of language, Hilal means the beginning of the month. Where the moon around the earth is 29-30 days with a phase consisting of crescent, half moon, full moon and dead moon, and the meaning of the new moon here is the crescent used to determine the beginning of the Islamic month. However, the Indonesian people are more familiar with this term to determine the beginning of the month of Ramadan and Shawwal where this is done to ensure the beginning and end of fasting that had previously been calculated through the reckoning method.
Determining the beginning of Ramadan by using the Hilal has a strong foundation seen from some of the Hadith and the Word of God contained in the verses of the Holy Qur'an. There are 2 criteria used to determine the beginning of fasting with the hilal method, namely Rukyatul Hilal and Wujudul Hilal. What's the difference between the two? And how to set it up?
Rukyatul Hilal
In the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad which reads: "Be fast because you see the new moon and open you because you see the new moon. If it is blocked then fulfill it becomes 30 days" used by the government to determine the beginning and end of Ramadan. Rukyatul Hilal is a way to determine the beginning of the month in the Islamic calendar by observing or observing directly whether the crescent has been seen or not yet seen. In Indonesia, there are several places that are used to see Hilal for further deliberation until reaching a joint decision regarding the determination of the beginning of the month of Ramadan given the appearance of the new moon is not always the same in various regions.
Wujudul Hilal
In contrast to Rukyatul Hilan, Wujudul Hilal is carried out using two principles namely ijtima or conjunctions that occur before sunset and the moon after sunset which states the beginning of the month of Ramadan has arrived without looking at the height of the moon at sunset. The method of the hilal method is not widely used. In general this method is only used by a few Muslims and is less familiar among ordinary people because it is not widely used. And now the way of wujudul hilal is only used as a basis for the determination of the beginning of the month of Hijriyah whether or not yet entered.
Those are the two ways in the Hilal method that can be used to determine the beginning of the month of Ramadan. So which method is used by the Indonesian government to determine the beginning of the fasting month? Unlike most other countries, Indonesia has a different way of determining the beginning of Ramadan known as Imkanur Rukyat based on the deliberations of the ministers of the Religion of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. To determine earlier this month two criteria were adopted, namely:
• At sunset, the minimum moon angle height is 2 ° above the horizon with a minimum distance of the moon and the sun is 3 °
• At the time of the sunset, the minimum moon age is 8 hours calculated from ijtima.
There are 3 criteria set in considering the sighting of the new moon based on the angle of the moon in Indonesia, namely:
• Hilal height is less than 0 °. Means the new moon is certainly not seen and that means it hasn't entered the beginning of the month.
• The height of the new moon is 0-2 ° which most likely the new moon is not seen when doing the prayer, so there are 2 possibilities of this criterion. First is to enter the beginning of the month if the hilal reckon has entered the moon and is accompanied by the sighting of the new moon at rukyat. The second is fulfilled to 30 days if during the hilal rukyat can not be seen.
• An altitude of more than 2 ° which has been confirmed the new moon will be seen and entered the beginning of the month.
